Jim Matheos has released Halo Effect, an experimental guitar album.

The album will be available February 17, 2014 via Burning Shed -https://www.burningshed.com/store/label/product/138/5440/

Halo Effect
'This is a guitar album.

There are no keyboards or sound effects on this recording. All the sounds were created by an acoustic guitar (for those interested in such things, a 1973 Alvarez classical with very old strings) which has been digitally processed to varying degrees, sometimes minimally, other times until the original signal is unrecognizable. To create each piece, multiple tracks were improvised separately, without a set key or tempo. The various ideas were then edited, combined, and layered together to form these songs. I hope you enjoy them.'

Cool! I liked "Away With Words" and "First Impressions" a great deal, so I'm looking forward to this one as well.

Jim, thank you for creating so much great music over the years. As a fellow guitarist/composer I have paralleled you from the beginning. In 20 years of creating new age classical heavy progressive metal it is easy for me to say that you have been a tremendous influence. I now also am experimenting with some guitar based ethereal music. Not as off the main road as your new album but for me it is a step into a more simple style and away from the long insanity. Would love to share all of it but the last song I recorded is just over an hour and the 2 before that were 30 and 40 minutes so they are too long for youtube uploads. Just in case you get bored here are a couple of links to my stuff. Thanks again.

Thanks everybody! If you're interested in this, please be sure to check out the sample before ordering. This sounds nothing like my other solo records and it's definitely not for everyone.

Thanks again,

-Jim

Inspiring stuff, but you are right. This is definitely not for everyone. However, I guess this is valid for most of the music I listen to. ;-)
Thanks!

Thanks for the music, Jim. I listened to the sample, I am not sure if I like it but I already ordered my cd. Experiments are like that, they can succeed or fail, but you can usually get something from the result. So, thank you for the music during all these years (FW, OSI, solo), and thanks for this experiment, it is always refreshing and requires courage.

Jim ....You Crazy...

Always nice to see you working. Ten years between Fates records is a long time but it is not like you weren't busy. Love being surprised. I remember picking up a Robert Frip record called soundscapes. Pretty wacky.... this is prety much mad scientist type of sh$t. You guys are crazy!!! Got to love it.

You're my favourite composer, and this shows once more your diversity. Really cool record, going to put this in a mix with Lustmord and Robert Rich ;)
